About Guéthary
Guéthary was a whaling port in the seventeenth century and a fashionable bathing place in the 1920s, and it has kept the scale of both: a harbour the size of a courtyard, a jetty, a square with the church and the fronton, and a few streets of Basque houses and art deco villas on the slope. Its fame today comes from the sea: Parlementia, the long right-hander that breaks off the point, is one of the classic waves of Europe, and on a big winter swell the cliff fills with spectators.
From the airport the transfer takes the coast road through Biarritz and Bidart or the A63 for one exit, about 30 minutes.
