About Lourdes

Lourdes receives several million pilgrims a year at the Sanctuary of Our Lady, around the grotto of Massabielle where Bernadette Soubirous saw the apparitions of 1858. The Sanctuary is a town within the town: two basilicas, the underground church of Saint Pius X, the baths, the torchlight procession every evening from April to October and the esplanade where the international pilgrimages gather. Around it, hundreds of hotels of every size; above it, the medieval castle with the Pyrenean museum and the funicular to the Pic du Jer.
