Irun is the border town on the Spanish bank of the Bidasoa, with a large commercial centre. Hondarribia, four kilometres away at the mouth of the river, is the pretty one: a walled old town of painted balconies around the parador, a marina district of pintxos bars, and a beach facing Hendaye across the bay. San Sebastián Airport, despite its name, is on the edge of Hondarribia.
The transfer leaves the A63 at the border and reaches either town in a few minutes. It serves hotels in both, Irun station and the Ficoba exhibition centre.
