About Saint-Jean-de-Luz
Saint-Jean-de-Luz is a fishing port turned resort, with a sheltered bay, a long sandy beach and a pedestrian centre of half-timbered Basque houses. Louis XIV married the Spanish infanta here in 1660, and the house where he stayed still stands on the square that bears his name. Across the harbour, Ciboure is the quieter twin town, home to the fort of Socoa and to the villa where Maurice Ravel was born.
From the airport the car takes the A63 or, when the traffic allows, the coast road through Bidart and Guéthary, which is worth it for the first glimpse of the bay.
